People often have a difficult time switching from an omnivorous diet to a vegetarian diet. Just making the decision to give up meat takes a lot of guts, but following through with that decision takes dedication and commitment. If you find that you are having a hard time switching to a vegetarian diet, you may want to try a step-by-step approach. What’s the first thing you should try to remove from your diet? Definitely, red meat should be the first to go, because it is high in fat, sodium, and cholesterol. After eliminating red meat from your diet, the next step is to try and give up poultry.
Eliminating poultry from your diet
First off, congratulate yourself for giving up red meat, one of the most unhealthy sources of food and one of the hardest to give up. Next, try to realize the dangers that poultry poses. Sure, white meats are often said to be lean and healthy, but you have to consider that these statements are usually made in comparison to red meat. The truth is, poultry is also quite unhealthy. Chickens are normally raised in bad conditions, with little room to move about in their cages. Also, chickens are pumped with antibiotics, growth hormones, and food to fatten them up before slaughtering. If you think about it, that is not natural at all. It’s bad enough to be eating meats, but to eat meats that are unnaturally raised and given little to no respect at all, is even worse. Besides, after being treated so poorly and unnaturally, chickens practically have no taste, so what’s the point in eating it?
Substituting seafoods in place of poultry
Eliminating poultry from your diet can be difficult to do, so you may want to start by reducing the amount of poultry that you eat. Instead of eating poultry, try to lean towards fish and other types of seafood that are very lean and healthful. By substituting seafood for poultry, not only are you avoiding the health hazards that poultry poses, but you can also feel good about not eating such poorly treated animals. Just remember that seafoods can be high in mercury, so try to come up with a balanced diet with seafood and a good amount of vegetables. With all of the different seafood recipes that you can try, there’s practically no reason for you to go back to chicken or other types of poultry. Once you have eliminated poultry from your diet, you can be sure that your diet is healthier, leaner, and more beneficial to your body.
